TaeKwonDo / MMA Class
Traditional TKD Classes means realistic self defense using
strikes, kicks, in close range blocking and striking and
ground techniques.
“Teaching the ART for Life!”
Traditional TKD classes are taught in combination class
setting to meet both the adult and child student needs.
Most classes have a minimum of two instructors, which allows
for adults and children to work both together and
separately. Safety is always our top priority. Exercises and
training activities are separated throughout class to meet
the needs of the adults and the kids
|
Emphasis is on:
traditional kicking styles of TKD
western boxing skills
real life self defense situations
basic grappling and ground fighting skills |
 |
Both men
and women participate in classes, with the women receiving
extra attention on predator attacks from behind.
The High Gear (see the
About Us
page) is used to give students more realistic situations to
overcome ‘adrenaline freeze’ to be effective immediately if
ever in a problem situation. Our complete training package
builds confidence in blocking, striking, and ground fighting
techniques.
The High
Gear is the best investment we have made in our school. By
having the HG equipment we can now offer more opportunities
to actually learn to strike, escape and/or control an
opponent under more realistic circumstances.
With the
HG, we now can offer Fusion Sparring for the kids that
enable them to ‘fuse’ their TKD, Boxing, and Grappling
skills together.
To ensure
that our realistic aspect of our TKD training creates a
student who will only use these skills defensively, our
classes emphasize the art of TKD. Our classes includes
forms,
self defense practice, heavy bag and focus bag work,
grappling , and free sparring - allowing
only incidental contact to allow the practice of throwing
full speed and force strikes without
harming your opponent. Our students learn control –
which translates to respect of
others and themselves.
Classes are
fast paced, highly participative, challenging and open for
questions and discussion. For adult students, the classes
are taught in the adult learning style that fosters a
learning environment where the adult is self motivated and
will learn at the pace they are ready for. Children will be
taught in a positive manner, but will be pushed to do more
than they think they can. This instills confidence and
discipline. The children are given outside of class tasks
to demonstrate their understanding of the tenets of TKD so
they can incorporate them into their everyday lives.
These
classes are designed with the student receiving up to date
information with an emphasis on traditional values and
defensive skills based upon years and years of knowledge.

Building Kids Confidence, one student at a

 |
This class is for 7 – 14 year old kids. The
classes are built to teach martial arts and sports
movement movement movement,
our goal is to build character. There is an emphasis on footwork, agility, eye
hand coordination, strength, and flexibility. Most classes
are designed with exercises that keep the kids motivated and
interested, while still building the necessary skills to
become a strong, proficient martial artist. Obstacle
courses, interactive skill competitions, heavy and light bag
work, plyometrics and other exercises are used. Along with
the above we emphasize:
·
traditional kicking styles of TKD
·
western boxing skills
·
real life self defense situations
standing and on the ground
Kids get
to take on the ‘bad guy’ wearing the High Gear. Kids have a
great time fighting an instructor who is wearing the full
body armored High Gear suit. Not only is this fun, it
teaches kids real life strategies to use against adult
attackers. Place this just below the last bullet about real
life self defense
All students who
participate in this class have the opportunity to advance to
their black belts while at the same time we also expect outside
class behavior to match the values of courtesy, integrity,
perseverance, self control, and indomitable (unbeatable)
spirit. Students are expected to demonstrate and identify
their positive actions throughout each month. Classes are

Lil' Dragons / Sports Movement
Martial arts and so much more!
For ages 3
½ to 6 years old
Our Lil
Dragons program has a great reward system that is designed
to motivate and instill confidence in our students. Using
our Taekwondo system of belts colors – white, yellow, green,
blue, red and black, each LD student will earn a white belt
with color horizontal striped belt as they progress. For
each horizontal striped belt, they can earn up to eight
stripes. Every two to three months, each student has a
special promotion day with their parents to earn the next
belt.
Our goal is
that once a student gets to their white belt with black
horizontal stripe – they are ready to move up to Taekwondo
and should be ready to test for their yellow belt soon after
moving up. The stripes and belt system really does keep the
kids moving forward.
Lil'
Dragons classes are built for the 4 – 6 year old student.
These classes are fast paced and action oriented. We teach
the following skills:
Lil Dragons will also learn invaluable coordination and
agility skills. Since Craig is a former football and
baseball coach, there is an emphasis on developing footwork,
speed, agility, and quickness. Using fun activities, the
kids will improve their footwork, balance, coordination –
and that translates into something very important –
confidence!
Students will participate in the following:
-
agility ladder exercises where they will develop more
coordination
-
plyometric drills (explosive jumping) to make them stronger
and quicker
-
animal imitation which develops functional strength and
speed
-
some conditioning
Character
and Personal Safety
are also emphasized in class. Kids are expected to show
proper respect to instructors and fellow students. We teach
them the ‘power sitting position’ and attention stance to
sit or stand quietly at attention. To emphasize in class
good behavior, kids can earn stripes for their belts in
class and earn a certificate for specific out of class good
behavior.
We also
teach "ChildLures" to the kids. (For more info on
"ChildLures" go to
www.childlures.org)This is done with a
great deal of attention on age and with full parent
participation and knowledge. The two biggest aspects of Lil
Dragon training is recognizing the difference between good
and bad secrets and walk away from adults they don’t feel
comfortable about. Also, throughout the year we schedule
"ChildLure" seminars for parents and other adults.
During the
school year our class schedule is Monday 1:15, Monday
6:00pm, Thursday 4:30.
Most
students attend one time per week – some come twice.

Dao
WuHsin
Advanced techniques
and movement
Our focus is fluid motion, joint locks and a higher
awareness in general. "Wu-Hsin" translated means "No
Thought" and that is exactly what our goal is, execution of
precise techniques without the need to think too much about
it. Quickness, decisiveness and effectiveness are some
keywords that define what we do and what we strive for. We
incorporate a lot of slow movement and practice to train our
minds to react quickly to whatever situation is at hand.
This is accomplished with quite pleasing results. We also practice
weapons with the Bo-Staff and
Short-Sticks.
